Our CCPA Commitment | California Consumer Privacy Act

CCPA

What is California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA)?

Established in June 2018, the California Consumer Privacy act was created to establish a comprehensive privacy regulation in the state of California. The new law will take effect on January 1, 2020.

The CCPA empowers California residents with the rights to:

  • Understand who their personal data has been disclosed to.
  • Learn what personal data a company has about them
  • Determine what third-parties their personal data has been sold to.
  • Right to Access – California residents can opt-out of such transactions or request their data be deleted altogether.

If a data provider does business in the State of California they must align with all legal provisions in the CCPA. If they fail to align business practice to the legal framework they face stern economic penalty much like in the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation.

The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), modeled by the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), is only a few months away. There is no doubt that this new law is going to impact everyone in the data industry, Webbula included. As January 1, 2020 approaches, our “Truth in Data” remains as strong as it ever has been during the last decade, and our commitment to industry-leading data quality is stronger than ever. All of us at Webbula are excited about the changes that CCPA brings and the opportunity it presents for us to continue providing superior data solutions for our customers.

The CCPA law applies to any organization with data on California residents that meet one of three criteria:

  • Your business’ annual revenue is over $25 million
  • Your business receives information over 50,000 consumers, households, or devices annually.
  • At least half of your business’ annual revenue comes from selling personal information

What is Webbula doing to ensure that it is compliant with the CCPA?

As CCPA approaches in 2020 our longstanding commitment to  “Truth in Data” remains as strong as it ever has been during the last decade. We’re encouraged by this legislation and look forward to being compliant with CCPA, just like we are with GDPR.

“To prepare for CCPA, Webbula is currently re-papering vendor contracts and working with vendors to ensure they are compliant. We are continuing to review our security measures, as we always do, to stay at the forefront of evolving industry standards and best practices. If there are any additional questions feel free to reach out to either me or our Chief Information Security Officer, Jeremy Fox” said by Vince Cersosimo, Chief Executive Officer at Webbula.

The CCPA seeks to address the overall lack of a comprehensive privacy regulation in the United States. While other state laws exist they tend to be sector-specific and rarely deal with the business use, collection and sale of personal data.

“At Webbula we believe implementing the privacy related provisions of the CCPA into our everyday business processes, which helps us become a better company, and allows us to service our customers more securely.” Jeremy Fox, Chief Information Security Officer at Webbula.
